Using Shortcodes in Email and Text Templates
Shortcodes are placeholders that automatically insert information from Tikit into your email and text message templates.
Instead of manually typing a donor’s name, your organization’s name, or other details each time, you can add a shortcode. When the message is sent, Tikit replaces the shortcode with the correct information.
Why Use Shortcodes?
Shortcodes help you:
- Personalize messages automatically.
- Reuse the same template for different recipients.
- Save time when contacting donors.
- Reduce typing mistakes.
- Keep your organization’s communications consistent.
How to Add a Shortcode
When creating or editing an email or text template:
- Find the Available Shortcodes panel beside the message editor.
- Select the shortcode(s) you want to use and copy them.
- Place your cursor where you want the information to appear, then paste the shortcode(s).
- Review your message to make sure everything looks correct, then click Save.
You can also type a shortcode manually, but its letters, spaces, symbols, and punctuation must remain exactly as shown.
Example
A template may contain:
Dear [#DONOR-FIRSTNAME#],
A new letter from [#CHILD-FIRSTNAME#] is now available.
You can securely view it here:
[#ENCRYPTED-LINK#]
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
[#COMPANY NAME#]
[#COMPANY LOGO#]
When the email is sent, Tikit automatically replaces each shortcode with the correct donor, child, link, and organization information.
Available Shortcodes
The available shortcodes may vary depending on the type of email or text message you are creating. Common examples include:
| Shortcode | Automatically Inserts |
|---|---|
| [#COMPANY LOGO#] | Your organization’s logo. |
| [#COMPANY NAME#] | Your organization’s name. |
| [#DONOR-FIRSTNAME#] | The donor’s first name. |
| [#DONOR-FULLNAME#] | The donor’s full name. |
| [#CHILD-FIRSTNAME#] | The sponsored child’s first name. |
| [#CHILD-FULLNAME#] | The sponsored child’s full name. |
| [#ENCRYPTED-LINK#] | A secure link to the donor dashboard. |
Important Tips
- Do not change the letters, spaces, symbols, or punctuation inside a shortcode.
- Use only the shortcodes available for the template you are creating.
- Preview your message before sending it.
- Make sure the related donor, child, and organization information is available in Tikit.
